Wedding Planning: Where to Start
So our wedding was a little over a year ago now, but a few close friends and relatives have gotten engaged lately and it’s making me miss the whole wedding planning process. Actually the more that I think about it, it’s really been two years since I got to plan everything out — drafting seating charts, creating menus, tasting cakes, DIY-ing decorations.
I was so busy with work, classes and planning at the time that I didn’t really prioritize documenting the process at all or writing many blog posts about it. But now that I find myself dreaming up wedding plans all over again, I figured I’d share a few tips for any of my other brides-to-be.
Whether you are giving yourself more or less than 12 months to prepare, the most important thing to do is lock in your dates. I promise the rest of your planning will fall into place once you have dates solidified. If there are any must-have vendors on your list (think caterer, band, photographer), contact them right away to check their availability for your big day.
As important as it is to set those dates for vendors, it’s just as important you tell your guests about them too!
I recently discovered Basic Invite and wished I had known about them when planning my own wedding. Not only do they have hundreds of fun wedding invitations, they offer matching sets complete with bridal shower invites, save the dates, menus and more. And if that wasn’t enough, you can preview your designs online and order samples before making any final decisions.
They also have free wedding websites that are completely customizable. I loved having a website to send our friends and family to. I included it on our invites so they could always refer to it for our full wedding weekend details: travel information, wedding schedule, activities and fun photos from our relationship.
If you’re going from Miss to Mrs. in the near future, make sure to check out the Basic Invite website for all your wedding inspiration and more. I’m obsessed with these adorable succulent bridal shower cards and want to know which your favorite is!
