Our Potty Training Favorites
A friend was asking me about some potty training recommendations and it inspired me to put this quick blog post together. Callie has been potty trained for about 7 months now, and after trying some different things out, I’m sharing our favorite items below.
1. The Perfect Potty Seat
Callie used the Frida Baby Grow-With-Me potty and I loved it for its simple design. It’s stable, low enough for littles to get on and off by themselves, and easy to clean (and to quickly move from room to room!).
While she normally uses the regular toilet now, we keep the Frida potty in her bathroom and she likes to use it at night when its darker (and she’s drowsier).
2. Training Pants
We actually made the transition from diapers to training pants at around two years old because the preschool we sent her to required them (still wore diapers overnight). We of course relied on our trusty ol’ Costco to supply these, and luckily Callie loved the Princess print on the Huggies Pullups they carry (if you don’t go to Costco, you can also find them here).
3. A Reward System
Positive reinforcement goes a long way in potty training (and a lot of things for Callie, really). We used this sticker chart and had a few prizes for her to “win” each time she completed a sheet (like an ice cream trip or a new outfit for her dolly). It made the process fun and gave our toddler something to look forward to (also helped to really push her to wash her hands as she had to finish ALL steps before getting a sticker).
4. Portable Potty
When you’re on the go, accidents can happen. This Oxo Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty came highly recommended and has been a game changer for us. It’s compact, easy to carry, and can be used as a standalone potty or on top of a public toilet seat. It was PERFECT for our road trip this summer and I still keep it in the back of my car for whenever we leave the house!
5. Dual Toilet Seat
Callie’s bathroom is upstairs, but the main bathroom she uses during the day is our downstairs guest bathroom. The whole training seat/ladder combo was too bulky to constantly move on/off (not to mention our downstairs bathroom is high traffic and rather small), so we quickly upgraded to this 2-in-1 toilet seat and have never looked back. I recommend it for any/all bathrooms that your child may access and is also used by adults.
Of course every child is different, and it’s important to go at their pace. Celebrate small victories, and don’t stress about accidents or setbacks—they’re part of the process.
I hope our favorite potty training items can help make this journey a little smoother for you and your little one!
